On July 18, 1955, in the city of Warrenton, GA, Gene and Melvin Smith opened the doors of Smith Farm Supply for the first time. After 52 years in business, the foundation had been built for the new owner. In September of 2007 Tyler Johnson, a Warren County native, began working at Smith Farm Supply learning all that he could from Smith. On January 2, 2008 Johnson became that new owner of Smith Farm Supply. Johnson was excited for the opportunity to continue with the legacy the Smith brothers had created in 1955. Johnson looked to the future in 2008 with dreams of expanding the business into a wider area that would reach a larger customer base. While Johnson had plans for growth, he never wanted to lose the heartbeat of Smith Farm Supply. That heartbeat is to give each person that deals with Smith Farm Supply an authentic and enjoyable experience every time they come in the door.

The growth started in 2011 in Lincolnton, Georgia and has not slowed down since. In the summer of 2012, Johnson opened a third location in Sandersville, GA with the acquisition of “The Feed Mill”. In 2013, Smith Farm Supply grew from three to five stores with the purchase of L&L Farm Mart in Milledgeville, GA and Southern States in Washington, GA. On January 2, 2018, exactly 10 years after Johnson became the owner of Smith Farm Supply, he opened his sixth location in Royston, GA. Three months later, a seventh Smith Farm Supply location opened in Harlem, GA. In 2020, the eighth and ninth Smith Farm Supply locations opened in Griffin, GA and Anderson, SC.

Two years later on September 6th, 2022 our tenth location opened in Greensboro Georgia. Five months later, two new locations opened in Calhoun and Ellijay GA. The Ellijay and Calhoun locations were previously Gravitt Farm Supply. Five months later on July 12th, 2023 our newest location opened in Stapleton GA. The Stapleton location was previously Hadco Farm Supply. We are now proud to say we have 13 locations serving South Carolina and Georgia.

In the years Johnson has owned Smith Farm Supply, the customer base has grown significantly, but one thing that has never changed is the customer service. Our goal is that Smith Farm Supply is a place where all generations experience what family, service, and tradition mean as we grow in the ever-changing industry of agriculture.
